I can’t believe it’s already Week 7. It’s terrifying how fast the NFL season is going by. Hopefully, we can all take a moment to slow things down and appreciate what this season has brought us thus far. There are many developing storylines in the NFL, and some of them, no matter what colors you wear, are undeniably enriching to the league. There are many examples of this, but the most exciting to me is the momentum that is growing in the Motor City.
While writing this, I have the Chiefs-49ers game on in the background and have been glued to football since 6:30 AM. Sundays are unequivocally the best day of the week, and I’ll fight over that. Another burst of dopamine that occurred in my brain today came from the Lions’ win over the Vikings in Minnesota. The Motor City, Detroit Rock City, your mom’s favorite team, whatever you want to call them; the Lions are undoubtedly the most entertaining team to watch this year. Not just because they are beating very good opponents, or are playing very good football, or are immensely talented, but because of the storyline that surrounds this team’s emergence from the depths of hell into what hopefully is the pearly gates of heaven (the Super Bowl). For my tenure, and most people’s tenure as an NFL fan, the Lions have been awful. Now, after all this time, they have one of the best offenses I’ve ever seen in my life. Penei Sewell and Frank Ragnow on the line, Sam LaPorta at TE, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams at WR, and Jahmyr Gibbs, David Montgomery, and Jared Goff in the backfield, this team is LOADED with Pro Bowl talent.
There are a minimum of 8 Pro Bowlers on this offense, and almost as many All-Pros. That number is absolutely insane. To top all this off, Jared Goff is playing at a very high level. Goff kind of has the Kirk Cousins effect going for him. He isn’t beyond exciting to watch, but he is executing to perfection and is constantly overlooked. Don’t believe me? Against the Seahawks two weeks ago, he finished 18-18 with 292 yards and 2 TDs. And today, against arguably the best defense in the league, IN MINNESOTA, Goff started the game 15-15, and finished 22-25 for 280 yards and 2 TDs. These are just two of the many games this year he has been an assassin on the field. When you have a QB playing that effectively, and one of, if not the most talented offenses in the league, the sky is the limit for your team.
The Detroit Motor City Lions are such a feel good story it’s ridiculous. They are the type of team that your Mom is rooting for. You know what i’m saying? Our emotionally superior halves have a keen ability to pin point the feel good stories in the league, and in my experience, these tend to be the storylines they follow closest. With this, I guarantee that unless your mom is a Packers, Bears, or Vikings fan, and she follows the NFL; she is probably rooting for the squad from Detroit Michigan.
I love this, if the Lions win it all this year, the NFL will be a better place.
